Tie Rod Mount Limit Switches Mount on Lehigh Hydraulic Cylinders

    LehighFluid Power, Lambertville, NJ announces that tie rod mount limit switches are available on their line of medium pressure hydraulic cylinders. This feature in hydraulic cylinders as a standard feature is unique to Lehigh.

    Tie-rod mount limit switches that are adjustable throughout the cylinder stroke length are commonly available on pneumatic cylinders because they are often constructed with aluminum tubes. This allows the addition of a magnetic piston so that inexpensive tie-rod mount limit switches may be used to sense stroke position.

    This feature disappears in competitive cylinders when manufacturers have to use steel tubes for strength in their hydraulic cylinders. Then, in order to sense position, costly proximity switches that need internal cylinder modifications must be precision machined into the head and cap - and then only end-of-stroke position sensing is achieved.

    It is possible for Lehigh to offer the lower cost tie rod mount limit switch design on their standard series of medium pressure hydraulic cylinders because the tube material in this series is not steel. For 60 years their pneumatic and medium pressure hydraulic cylinders have been constructed with tubes made of hard tempered brass. This material enables us to feature the same magnetic piston sensing option in hydraulics that is common in pneumatics.

    This tie rod mount limit switch feature is also available on Lehigh's line of all stainless steel pneumatic and medium duty hydraulic cylinders.
